Quads 4 Quads no ride in the park (But raising 700 grand for charity made it all very worthwhile)
October 16-17 Star Motoring.
OKAY, I’ll be the first to admit that perhaps I underestimated the Quads 4 Quads charity offroad event (that last word should really read challenge), when I signed up for what I thought would be a leisurely thousand kay cruise from Durbs up to Jozi over four days.
And I think it showed when I rocked up at the start – at the Cane
Cutters resort in Ballito – in my jeans, with my two-second pop-up
tent in one hand and my thermal jacket in the other. Event head-honcho Glenn Foley, from organisers Family Adventures, took one look at this and asked if I was actually aware that we had 1 000km to ride, to which I promptly asked: “When are were starting?”
Golf Data has taken delivery of a range of equipment from Smith Power Equipment (SPE) for the soon to be opened Steyn City Golf Course. Steyn City, on the urban edge of Sandton, Gauteng, is the result of well-known South African businessman Douw Steyn’s vision to ‘build a city like no other on the African continent – a lifestyle estate founded on the principle of community and quality of life.
open, matches the vision. “It has magnificent views and numerous water features including dams and creeks. But, most importantly, it is a user-friendly course with wide fairways and a network of walkways, which will encourage everyone to play or to just walk and enjoy the spectacular environment,” says Golf Data’s Fanie Bester.
He adds that the entire development exudes excellence and building and maintaining the golf course demands the same level of service and expertise. “For this reason we had no hesitation in getting our new equipment from SPE which not only has outstanding products, like Toro, Club Car and Kubota, but has proven over many years that they back these products up with an equally excellent level of service and support,” Bester says.
To date Golf Data has taken delivery of: TORO – 4 X flex 21s, 1 sidewinder 3500, 1 X utility spray rig Workman 3300, 3 X zero turn rotary mowers; KUBOTA -1 X STV 32 Tractor; CLUB CAR: 7 X 500 series carry-alls.
SPE director Lionel Coetzee who has worked with Golf Data for decades says that his company never takes for granted this excellent relationship. “We deeply appreciate the business we have got from Golf Data over the years and will continue to give them the best possible service that we can. We look forward the Steyn City opening and to working closely with them in the future,” Coetzee concluded.

Kubota Spray Cabins – a significant differentiating factor
Veteran tractor expert, Kubota SA’s Mike Heath, warns that South African farmers are not taking seriously enough the importance of a well-designed, safe tractor cab which conforms to the international safety standards. “This is most especially important with cabs of spraying tractors,” says Heath.

What do you get when you cross a Polaris Sportsman with a Polaris RZR? An Ace. And not the mealie meal type either. This is cutting edge technology and we loved every second of the new machine…
With the Amid show looming, we fully expected to be introduced to some new stuff in the motorcycle world. We had no clue that we would get to ride this one. The chaps from Polaris SA invited us to come and have a look at something quite special – and they were correct. We vaguely remember seeing something about the Ace a while ago – probably in concept form, but we were not entirely sure whether it had been built or what was happening really. When they rolled this one off the trailer we were pleasantly surprised – we love innovation and new technology.

Kubota RTVs save the day at Namibia Wildlife Resorts’ Dolomite Camp
Two Kubota RTV units from Lubbe Motor Group (LMG) in Namibia have saved the day for Namibia Wildlife Resorts’ (NWR) Dolomite Camp in Etosha, Namibia.
LMG MD, Etienne Lubbe, says that the Dolomite camp was previously using well-known traditional golf carts for its internal
transport. “These were unsuitable for the difficult terrain. The Dolomite Camp is situated on extremely steep – up to 40 degree gradients – and rocky ground and the golf carts were simply not designed for such conditions,” says Lubbe. “However Kubota’s heavy-duty, high performance RTV Series utility vehicles have the power and durability to tackle the toughest tasks on a wide variety of terrains and they are just what the doctor ordered.”
