Bryanston Country Club Changes to Club Car

Changing to Club Car is quite common these days and Bryanston Country Club (BCC) can now be added to this fast-growing list. Club Car is distributed in South Africa by Smith Power equipment (SPE).

As part of BCC’s latest equipment upgrade programme, it recently took delivery of a range of new equipment from SPE. The equipment includes 22 Club Car electric golf carts; 2 x Toro Reelmaster 5510 fairway mowers, a Toro Greensmaster 3400 tee mower and a Redexim Turf Tidy fairway sweeper.

From a course management perspective our main aim is smooth, efficient and disciplined operation,” says BCC’s manager, Paul Leishman.

With machines cutting fairways, rough and greens on a daily basis; tools being transported from one end of the course to the other; irrigation pipes being maintained on a constant basis; tee markers changed and holes moved on the greens every day and more, we have to operate like well-oiled machine. In this regard SPE has been a great help over the years. Their products have been top notch and their service world class. But, more than this, we have developed a real partnership based on mutual trust and respect,” Paul says.

Until this purchase of the 22 Club Car carts, BCC has been using other well-known golf cart brands and Paul says that there were a number of reasons for the change. “Firstly, Club Car is one of the world’s best brands and we know its excellent quality. Secondly, SPE gave us an excellent price on these machines. Thirdly, we use the Visage GPS system at BCC and Club Car is the best cart for this system being fully compatible with Visage and affording 100% functionality. Fourthly, the service of the SPE team. All the great machines and technology would count for nothing if their quality was not matched by the after sales support and service. SPE has always gone the extra mile for us,” Paul says.

BCC bought the Club Car Precedent i2, probably the most advanced golf cart ever built and which has set the global standard for style and performance. Powered by the Club Car electronic fuel injection (EFI) engine, arguably the most economical gasoline engine in the market or, if preferred – as BCC did -an electric motor, it offers the quietest, smoothest ride from tee to green.

From its 360° wrap-around bumper to its ergonomic seats the Precedent i2 provides comfort, stability and safety both on the undulating ground on the course and off it.

The attention to detail is outstanding,” says SPE’s Stephen Mangold, “with each detail taking the golfer into account from the Monson top, which channels the water away from the passengers to a spacious bagwell and a newly designed interior with more storage space for personal items.

On the question of the other equipment bought as part of the latest equipment upgrade, Paul says: “The facts speak for themselves. We have had the most outstanding success with Toro over so many years at the Club. These are outstanding, world-renowned machines which have significantly enhanced our operational productivity and our bottom line.

As usual BCC has done the financial deal through well-known finance house Rentworks. “We rent all our equipment and in this way we know exactly what we are in for each year. We have a capital equipment renewal programme that we follow and the Toro team has been very supportive of this strategy,” he says.

Mangold says that BCC, Paul and his team are up there with the best. They manage an outstanding golf course and we are privileged to be able to have been of service to them over the years,” he concluded.
