Say the word “Kubota” and one probably thinks of world-class, powerful, durable and efficient tractors in a range of sizes. While this is of course true, Kubota also means a host of other state-of-the-art machinery including the popular Kubota ZG227 Zero-Turn ride-on mower.
It is this mower that has proved to be the perfect solution for mowing the extensive lawns at Boshof Solar Park (BSP), an enormous 66MW solar farm on the doorstep of the tiny Free State town which will sell electricity to Eskom to relieve pressure on the national grid.
Bonginkosi Dlamini, BSP operations manager, says that grass maintenance is crucial to the efficient operation of the facility – especially mowing between the panels – and that the Kubotas are just right for the job at hand. “We looked at several different brands and decided on the Kubota ZG227 because of its speed, power and versatility,” Dlamini says.
He adds that the service reputation of Smith Power Equipment, distributors of Kubota in Southern Africa, was excellent and that “both the machines and the service have lived up to their reputations,” Dlamini says.
Some of the more important features of the Kubota ZG227 are:
- Petrol air-cooled, V-Twin, 768cc 2-cylinder engine with heavy duty canister air filter.
- 27 HP @ 3600 rpm.
- Shaft driven PTO
- Hydraulic Independent PTO clutch
- Wet multi disc brakes
- 2-HST w/ gear reduction transmission.
