Groblersdal, a farming town situated in the Sekhukhune District of Limpopo, is famous for its irrigation farming. And it won’t be long before a young 18-year old farmer in that district – Gerhardt Nell – will add significantly to that fame!
You see Gerhardt knows what he wants and in spite of his young age he is moving forward hell for leather to achieve it. “I always wanted to be a farmer,” he says. “And now, with the 60ha that I am starting out on and my Kubota M8540, I’m in a position to make my dream a reality,” says Gerhardt.
His enthusiasm for Kubota is obvious. “Since I was a kid growing up on my dad’s farm, tractors were a part of my life. I’ve driven and helped maintain so many of the big-name tractors and I have no hesitation in saying that Kubota is the best machine on the market. They are reliable, powerful and, because of so many of their unique features, which are designed with the operator in mind, they are easy to operate and extremely fuel efficient,” Gerhardt says.
Re-engineered, restyled and powered by Kubota’s world renowned Tier III compliant, 4 cylinder E-CDIS (centre direct injection system) diesel engines, the lightweight, short-wheelbase M8540 (N) tractors have proven to be one of the most popular tractors in South Africa and the world. Their advanced transmission and PTO technology, a range of new features and high performance hydraulics has made the M40 range of Kubota tractors exceptional and especially in lowering the total cost of ownership.
Gerhardt says that the backup service he gets from Victer Kerslake and all the Tractor Warehouse team is great. “They don’t care how young I am. They give me the same great service as they give all their customers.”
“Gerhardt is a very unusual young man,” says Kerslake. “He is fiercely independent and I have no doubt that he will succeed beyond even his own expectations. He will be one of the biggest Kubota customers in the country before too long,” he concluded.
